Inclusion Criteria:
Systemically healthy individuals of both sexes, aged 18 years or older, presenting at least 15 natural teeth, excluding third molars and teeth indicated for extraction; participants will be allocated into the Periodontal Health, Gingivitis, and Stage III Periodontitis, grade B or C groups according to the periodontal classification; Periodontal Health group: absence of clinical attachment loss and bone loss due to periodontitis, probing depth less than or equal to 3 mm at all sites, and bleeding on probing less than or equal to 10%; Gingivitis group: more than 30% of sites with bleeding on probing, probing depth less than or equal to 3 mm, and absence of clinical attachment loss and bone loss due to periodontitis; Stage III Periodontitis, grade B or C group: at least 30% of teeth presenting at least 1 site with probing depth and clinical attachment level greater than or equal to 5 mm, associated with bleeding on probing
Exclusion Criteria:
Use of antibiotics, probiotics and/or prebiotics within the last 6 months; periodontal treatment performed within the last 6 months; continuous use of mouthwashes containing antimicrobial agents; prolonged use of anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive medications; presence of systemic conditions that may interfere with the progression of periodontal diseases, such as diabetes, obesity, or immunological disorders; presence of chronic gastrointestinal diseases; individuals with extensive prosthetic rehabilitations; need for antibiotic prophylaxis for routine dental procedures; smokers; pregnant or breastfeeding women
